The women who underwent surgery to increase the size of your breasts often feel more self-esteem and a more positive assessment of their sex lives, according to a study released by the University of Florida (UF).

The study indicates that, although breast surgery “is not a panacea for improving low self esteem,” produce psychological benefits.

“Many people have a negative image of those who undergo cosmetic surgery without having a clear understanding of the benefits it can bring,” says Cynthia Figueroa-Haas, an assistant professor at the University of Nursing and one of UF responsible for this study.

The study was conducted to 84 women between 21 and 57 years and assessed the perception that they felt about themselves before and after they underwent the implant and breast augmentation.

After undergoing surgery, the rate of improvement in self-esteem of participants rose from 20.7 to 24.9 on a 30-point Rosenberg scale, and the average female sexual function increased from 27.3 to 31.4 points.

Regarding the evaluation of sexual desire, 76.6 percent reported experiencing increased to 81 per cent and 57 per cent reported an increase in satisfying sexual desires.

Only a small number of patients reported that their levels of self-esteem or sexuality had not experienced any change after breast surgery.

“I believe with all certainty that the study shows that plastic surgery” can help, for example, women dissatisfied with their breast after breastfeeding or age-related problems.

“These women may not feel attractive, something that has a negative impact on their levels of self-esteem and sexuality,” said Figueroa-Haas.

However, Figueroa warned that “women should not view plastic surgery as a cure for all problems of self-esteem and sexuality.”

“There may be patients who are never satisfied with their bodies no matter how many transactions happen,” he said.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2005 were conducted 2.1 million transactions in the U.S. and this figure is expected to increase in coming years.

Specifically, the number of cases of enlarged breasts grew by 476 per cent since 2000 and the total number of women who underwent breast implant already exceeds two million.

For this year, is expected to more than 360,000 women to pass through the operating room to undergo a breast implant for cosmetic reasons.
